Tolkien Quote for Saturday Evening
“The realm of fairy-story is wide and deep and high and filled with many things: all manner of beasts and birds are found there; shoreless seas and stars uncounted; beauty that is an enchantment, and an ever-present peril; both joy and sorrow as sharp as swords. In that realm a man may, perhaps, count himself fortunate to have wandered, but its very richness and strangeness tie the tongue of a traveller who would report them. And while he is there it is dangerous for him to ask too many questions, lest the gates should be shut and the keys be lost.” – J. R. R. Tolkien “On Fairy-Stories”

Upon occasion, far in the back country, usually under the canopy of tall cedars, I think of some of those old stories and wonder…
There are times and places when I’ve thought “hmmm,” and have wanted to look quickly over my shoulder to see if “anybody” was there.

I love Tolkien. My favorite quote of his is, “Not all who wander are lost.”
I like that wander quote as well, Smoky. Since I can’t help but see the flip side of everything, one can also say that not all who are lost are wandering.

LOL! My mother had a terrible sense of direction. Long ago, on my 14th birthday, she put a cake in the oven, then decided she had time to run to the post office and mail some letters. She ended up two towns over from our town. Needless to say, I ended up with a store-bought cake! She definitely was lost, not wandering!
Those store-bought cakes come in handy when people get lost, either on the roads or in the kitchen.
